Side panel AI

AI that stays beside your work, not in another tab.

Chrome's side panel lets an extension open next to the page instead of on top of it. Muse is built around that: your AI companion is always one shortcut away and never hides what you are reading.

The problem

Popup assistants cover the page, and separate AI tabs make you copy and paste everything.

How Muse helps

Muse opens in the side panel, keeps context from the current page and stays put as you scroll.

The outcome

You read, ask and write side by side, with nothing covering the page.

Built for the side panel

Works in the Muse side panel. Open it from the toolbar or with ⌘ + M.

  1. Pin Muse to the toolbar

Click the puzzle icon in the toolbar, then the pin next to Muse AI Companion.

  2. Open with one shortcut

Use the keyboard shortcut to open the panel from any page.

  3. Use quick actions

Summarize, Explain, Rewrite, Extract and image generation are one click away.

  4. Right-click to Ask AI

Select text on any page, right-click and choose Ask AI to send just that passage to Muse.

Muse is built around the Chrome side panel. Edge and Firefox handle sidebars in their own way, so the experience can differ there.

What the side panel makes easier

Reading with notes

Keep summaries and saved notes visible while you read the source.

Writing with a reference

Draft in a web app while Muse explains the reference page beside it.

Voice input

Dictate instead of typing. Speech becomes text in your browser; audio is never uploaded.

On-page launcher

A small Muse button on pages gives one-tap access to summarize, explain, translate, images and email.

Common questions

What is the shortcut to open Muse?

⌘ + M on macOS, Ctrl + Shift + M on Windows, Linux and ChromeOS. Change it at chrome://extensions/shortcuts.

Can a website open the Muse side panel?

No. For security, browsers only let you open an extension side panel yourself, from the toolbar or with a shortcut.

Why does the microphone open a helper tab?

Side panels cannot show the system permission prompt, so Muse opens a small helper tab where your browser asks for microphone access.
